Now we are even!

 Harlan,

This is from a little while back but we were at an appointment and waiting in the lounge.  A little girl and her mom entered and the little girl gave me a hug, randomly.  You looked around for a moment on what to do next, and you ran to hug her mom to make things "even."  It was really cute and made me smile for days on end.

Love you,

Dad

Long time coming?

 Harlan,

I am sorry it has been a while.  I will try to catch up a bit on this one.

Here are some of my favorite things I can think of over the past year or so:

  • Just now, we are at the table and I gave you a snack.  You said:  "I eat.  You work on your computer."  For some reason your directness cracks me up.
  • Speaking of literalness, a while back your mom said to you "Harlan, you haven't even touched your dinner."  You looked at her, then put your index finger on your dinner and went immediately back to what you were doing without eating anything.
  • A couple of days ago, you ripped about 10 toots of varying lengths.  After you finished, you shouted, "I tooted twinkle twinkle little star!"
Below are some pics from your first year of school, camping, you being treated like a king (post ice cream nap mode in your stroller), our dog Buddy who we lost this past year, and our new pets, Oreo (cat) and Mala (dog).

Love you,

Dad

Harlan's Toots Are Funny!

 Harlan:

We have been reading the book "Toot" for a while now.  When you were at daycare ("La La's") you told her "Daddy's toots are loud.  Mommy's toots are quiet and Harlan's toots are funny."  That is more/less quoting the book but it took La La by complete surprise.  Still makes me laugh every time I think about it.

Love you,

Dad

My Kind of Humor

Harlan:

So a couple times lately you really made me laugh with a certain kind of humor.

First one was a little while ago when reading "Pete the Cat and His Brand New White Shoes."  In the story Pete steps in various things and changes the color of his shoes.  Instead of mud one time, you said "Oh no, Pete stepped in a large pile of poo!   I love my poo shoes, I love my poo shoes, I love my poo shoes!"

Then last night you were going #2, and your mom commented that you took a "Daddy sized poo..."  You kept pushing and grunted "here comes a mama sized poo!"  We all laughed hysterically.

You are an awesome and funny dude!

Love you,

Dad

Take Me Out to the Ballgame

Harlan,

Lately you have been wanting to sing "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" at naps and bedtime.  It is really cute.  Not to put a downer on it, that song was the processional at your great-grandfather Thomas Thompson.  He loved baseball and maybe someday you will too.

Love you,
Dad

Ps:  Ironically, I was listening to take me out to the ballgame on the radio as I was writing this.

Pic of you climbing on your mom.

My Little Artist

Harlan:

Before school the other day, you were playing on a drawing board.  When I turned around after I minute, you had created this awesome smiley face:

You are already a better artist than me at age 3!  Love it.

Also, you have been really into the "Going on a Bear Hunt" song...it is really cute.  Here a video of the end:

Love you,
Dad

Nice Assist!

Harlan:

The other day we were driving and you still face backwards in your seat.  Suddenly you started yelling "Police Car!"  "Police Car!"  I can neither confirm nor deny if I was a bit over the speed limit at that moment.  I slowed down and avoided a ticket...thanks bud.  You get the assist on that one.

Love,
Dad

Here are some pics from the past few months.

This was from the splash pad.  You definitely love summer.

Go Big Red!
